Singapore rope skipping competitions

National level rope skipping competitions in Singapore dated back to 1989. Recorded here are competitions since 2000.

One the big sport development was the introduction of long handle freestyle ropes and bare cable speed ropes in 2003 by Rope Skipping Singapore. Cable speed ropes were promptly banned by the primary school Nationals organizers, MOE, who deemed cable ropes dangerous. In 2009 they allowed coated cable speed ropes in their competition.

Also since 2003 Rope Skipping Singapore has been asking MOE to organize a secondary school National. In 2009 Pieter Himpe of FISAC had a long discussion with MOE's Serene Ng about this. Pieter who was in Singapore to conduct a judges certification at Rope Skipping Singapore knows this is the age group to develop sport rope skipping.

Meanwhile 2009 witnessed the most variety of competitions for teenage skippers. The Jumping Jewels, a teenage team, won a popular TV talent competition and a fusion competition bringing much attention to teenage rope skipping.
